Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 July 2026 · Applies to the MeloGuess game on Android and on the web
MeloGuess is a music quiz you can play without giving us anything about yourself. This page states what is collected when you do share something, why, and what you can demand of us.
1. Who is responsible
MeloGuess is published by an independent developer, who is the data controller for the processing described here. Requests and questions go through the contact page.
No data protection officer has been appointed: the processing described below does not meet the conditions that would require one.
2. What is collected
Playing without an account
You can play every mode without signing in. In that case the game needs only:
- The nickname you type — chosen by you, shown to the other players in your room. The app never invents one for you.
- Your room code, answers and score, for as long as the game lasts, so the other players can see them.
The nickname and your settings stay on your device. The rest lives on the server only while the room is open.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional and is what lets your progress and purchases follow you from one device to another. We then receive from your sign-in provider your email address, your display name and your profile picture. We never see your password.
If you subscribe
Payment is handled entirely by the app store. We never see your card, your bank details or your billing address. We keep only what is needed to know that your subscription is valid: which plan, its status, and the date the current period ends.
Advertising
Ads appear in the mobile app only, and never for subscribers. To serve them, Google may collect an advertising identifier, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and information about your device and your interaction with the ads. We receive none of it. It is governed by Google's policy.
3. What is never collected
- Your microphone is never used. The app plays audio, it does not listen. Nothing is recorded, at any point.
- Your precise location is never requested.
- Your contacts, photos, files and messages are never accessed.
- Your personal data is never sold, to anyone, for any purpose.
4. Why, and on what legal basis
- Running a game — nickname, room, answers, scores. Necessary to deliver the service you asked for.
- Keeping your account — email, name, picture. Necessary to provide the account you chose to create.
- Managing a subscription — plan, status, period end. Necessary to give you what you paid for, and to meet the accounting obligations that come with a sale.
- Showing ads — funds a game that is free to play. Personalised ads rely on your consent wherever consent is required.
- Keeping the service up — detecting abuse and faults, on the basis of our legitimate interest in a game that works and is not cheated.
5. Who receives it
Your data is never sold and never shared for anyone else's own purposes. It reaches third parties only in these cases:
- The other players in your room — your nickname and your score, while the game is running. That is the point of the game.
- Google — for sign-in, if you use it, and for the ads in the Android app. Privacy policy
- The app store — for purchases and subscriptions.
- Technical providers acting on our instructions to host and operate the service. They are bound by contract to use the data for that alone, and never for their own ends.
- Authorities, where the law obliges us to disclose.
6. Ads and your choice
This concerns the Android app, the only place ads appear. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent form is shown before any personalised ad loads. Refusing costs you nothing: the game works exactly the same and you see non-personalised ads instead.
You can change your mind at any time from your device settings, where you can also reset your advertising identifier to cut the link with past activity. Subscribing removes ads entirely.
7. How long it is kept
- On your device — until you uninstall the app, clear its storage, or clear your browser data.
- A room and its scores — dropped shortly after the game ends. Nothing about a finished game is kept.
- Your account — until you delete it. See below.
- Subscription records — for as long as the subscription runs, then for the period accounting law requires us to keep proof of a sale.
8. Where it is processed
Some of our providers process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Those transfers rely on the safeguards provided for by the GDPR, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
9. Your rights
Over the data that concerns you, you may:
- ask for access to it, and a copy;
- have it corrected if it is wrong;
- have it erased;
- ask that its processing can be restricted;
- withdraw your consent at any time, which does not undo what was lawfully done before.
Write through the contact page, from the address you signed in with so we can be sure the account is yours. We answer within one month.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country of residence.
Deleting your account
You can delete it yourself, from the app: open the account menu and choose Delete my account. Your account and the data attached to it are erased, and this cannot be undone.
Two things it does not do. A subscription bought through the store is not cancelled by deleting your account — only you can cancel it, from your store account, and it keeps being billed otherwise. And uninstalling the app removes what is on the device but leaves an account untouched.
10. Automated decisions
No decision producing legal or similarly significant effects is taken about you by automated means, and no profiling of that kind is carried out.
11. Children
MeloGuess is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. A parent who believes their child provided personal data can ask us to remove it, and we will.
12. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted. Account data is held with access limited to what the service needs to function, and the server never trusts a client to declare its own rights. No system is perfectly secure, but we take measures proportionate to the data at stake.
13. Changes
This policy changes as the game does. The date at the top always reflects the version in force, and a significant change is announced in the app before it takes effect.
14. Contact
Any question, request or complaint goes through the contact page.
