Privacy Policy

MeloGuess is a music quiz you can play without telling us anything about yourself. This page explains, in plain words, what we know about you, why we need it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

1. Who we are

MeloGuess is made and run by one independent developer. One person decides what happens to everything described here, and answers for it. Questions and requests go through the contact page.

There is no separate privacy officer to write to. A game this small is not required to have one, and the developer handles these requests personally.

2. What we know about you

Playing without an account

You can play every mode without signing in. In that case the game needs only:

• The nickname you type — chosen by you, shown to the other players in your room. The app never invents one for you.
• Your room code, answers and score, for as long as the game lasts, so the other players can see them.

Your nickname and your settings stay on your phone or your computer. The rest sits on our server only while the room is open, and goes away with it.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional. It is what lets your progress follow you when you change phone. Whoever you sign in with then tells us your email address, your display name and your profile picture. We never see your password — you type it to them, never to us.

Your statistics

If you are signed in, the game keeps a running count of how you play. Each time a game reaches its end, that game is added to your totals:

• how many games you played, and how many you won against others;
• how many rounds you played and how many tracks you found;
• your points in total, your best game, and how fast you answer on average;
• the date you last played.

Totals, and nothing else. We keep no list of your games. Nothing says which tracks you heard, which room you were in, or who you played against — only the numbers above, added up. Play without signing in and none of it is written down at all.

You are the only person who sees these numbers. They disappear when you delete your account.

The music you hear

The clips come from Apple, not from us. Your device fetches each one directly, so Apple sees the request and your connection's address.

We never tell Apple who is playing. Your nickname, your account and your scores stay with us.

Bug reports and crashes

When you report a bug, we keep what you wrote, plus the app version, your device model and the screen you were on. If you were signed in, the report is linked to your account so we can reply.

Nothing is sent unless you decide to send it. The app never reports anything about you on its own.

Money and ads

MeloGuess sells nothing and shows no ads. The game is free, there is no subscription, there is nothing to buy inside it, and no advert is ever displayed. So we hold no payment details, and nothing is gathered about you to pick ads.

If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens, and will explain exactly what changes.

3. What we never touch

• Your microphone is never used. The game plays sound, it never listens. Nothing is ever recorded.
• We never ask where you are.
• Your contacts, your photos, your files and your messages are never opened.
• We never sell what we know about you. Not to anyone, not for anything.

4. Why we need each thing

• To run a game — nickname, room, answers, scores. Without them there is no game to play.
• To keep your account — email, name, picture. That is what an account is made of.
• To keep your statistics — the totals above. That is what you signed in for, and you can stop it whenever you like by deleting your account.
• To keep the game working — spotting breakdowns and cheating. We think that is a fair reason to look; tell us if you disagree and we will listen.

5. Who else sees it

We never sell what we know about you, and we never hand it to anyone to use for their own ends. It reaches other people only in these cases:

• The other players in your room — your nickname and your score, while you are playing. That is the whole point of the game.
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with your Google account. Their privacy policy
• Apple — each time your device loads a clip. They see the request and your connection's address, never your nickname. Their privacy policy
• The authorities, if the law forces us to hand something over.

Apple and Google are based outside the European Union. When something reaches them, it travels under the safeguards European rules require.

6. Ads and tracking

There are no ads in MeloGuess, anywhere, so you will never see a box asking you to accept them. Nothing in the game measures what you do, and nothing follows you from one app or website to another.

To be completely straight with you: the Android version still carries Google's advertising software, left over from an earlier version of the game. It is never asked to show anything, and it never does.

7. How long we keep it

• On your phone or computer — until you uninstall the app, clear its storage, or clear your browser.
• A room, its answers and its scores — thrown away shortly after the game ends. We keep nothing about how a game went.
• Your statistics — until you delete your account, since the whole point is that they add up over time. They are only totals, so adding a game to them leaves no trace of that game.
• Your account — until you delete it, as explained below.

8. What you can ask us

About everything we hold on you, you can ask us to:

• show you what we have, and give you a copy;
• correct it, if it is wrong;
• erase it;
• stop using it for a while, if you are disputing something;
• forget anything you once agreed to — which does not undo what was already done properly beforehand.

Write to us through the contact page, using the email address you signed in with, so we can be sure the account really is yours. We reply within a month.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you can complain to the authority that watches over privacy in your country.

Deleting your account

You can delete it yourself, from the app: open the account menu and choose Delete my account. Your account, your statistics and everything else attached to it are erased, and this cannot be undone.

One thing it does not do: uninstalling the app removes what is on the device but leaves the account untouched. The two are separate.

9. Nothing decides anything about you on its own

No computer makes a decision about you by itself — nothing that affects your rights, your money, or anything else that matters. We build no picture of who you are or what you like.

10. Children

MeloGuess is not made for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything about them. A parent who thinks their child has given us something can ask us to remove it, and we will.

11. Keeping it safe

Everything travelling between the game and our servers is scrambled, so nobody in between can read it. On our side, only the parts of the game that genuinely need your account details can reach them, and the server checks every request itself rather than believing whatever the app tells it. No system is ever perfectly safe, but the care we take matches what is at stake.

12. Changes to this page

This page changes as the game does. The date at the top is always the version that applies right now. If something important changes, we tell you in the game before it takes effect.
